TYPES OF  IELTS –

1. IELTS Academic
  • The IELTS Academic test is designed for individuals who plan to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, or for those seeking professional registration in an English-speaking country.
  • It assesses whether candidates are ready to begin studying or training in an environment where English is the language used for instruction.
  • The test consists of four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The content and tasks are academically oriented and reflect situations encountered in academic settings.
2. IELTS General Training
  • The IELTS General Training test is typically taken by individuals who are planning to migrate to an
English-speaking country for work, training programs, or secondary education.
  •  It assesses English language proficiency in a practical, everyday context, focusing on general survival
skills in broad social and workplace contexts.
  • Like the Academic version, the General Training test also includes four sections: Listening, Reading,
Writing, and Speaking. However, the content and tasks are more oriented towards everyday
communication and situations encountered in social and workplace settings.

Both versions of the IELTS test have the same Listening and Speaking sections. However, there are differences in the Reading and Writing sections between the Academic and General Training versions, reflecting the different purposes for which candidates might be taking the test.

3. IELTS UKVI
IELTS UKVI Academic
  • Required for individuals applying for Tier 4 student visas, Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visas, and Tier 2
    (General) visas for skilled workers.
  • The Academic version assesses candidates’ readiness to study or work in English-speaking academic
    environments.
IELTS UKVI General Training
  • Required for individuals applying for family, spouse, partner, or parent visas, as well as for visas under
the points-based system (excluding Tier 1 and Tier 2 visas).
  • The General Training version assesses candidates’ proficiency in everyday English language skills in social and workplace contexts.

It’s important for candidates to determine which version of the IELTS test they need to take based on their  specific goals, whether it’s for academic study or immigration purposes, and to prepare accordingly.

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Individuals planning to take the IELTS exam for academic or immigration purposes.
  • Students who need to achieve specific band scores for admission to universities or professional registration.
